Speed blogging - discuss and share

Tuesday, January 30, 17:30-19:00

During this session you will discuss and write blogs.
Please choose on of the topics listed below by registering here: https://skjema.uio.no/93188 before dinner on Monday 29.01.

The groups will be self-organized, and what you discuss is very much up to each group. You have a lot of freedom to shape the content, therefore the content-wise instructions are kept to a minimum.

The following guidance is given to help you for this session:
  • There will be at most 5 people per topic: if many more than 5 people are interested in one topic, they will split into several groups.
  • We will be using Google Docs to write blogs. Please create your document in this shared Google-drive folder
  • Take maximum 1 hour to discuss about the topic chosen in your team.
  • Write a short blog on your findings during the rest of the session: choose one or two pictures and write a few paragraphs
  • Keep about 10 minutes before the end of the session to choose who will present your findings during the wrap-up session on Wednesday morning, and prepare a 2-3 minutes presentation for this.

While we discussed and shared our sucess stories in the previous session, here we will discuss future perspectives on:

  1. How do you create a NeIC identity?
    • What is NeIC identity? What strategy to adopt to create a NeIC identity (HR policy, competence development, 10% helping time, NeIC culture, branding and visibility, keeping this alive)?

  2. How do we best organize documentation? What is the best tool, strategy (inwards & outwards, googleTeam? vendor Lock-In trap)?
    • What do we use today? What would we like to have?

Have your say! Your voice matters!

  3. How can we bootstrap and manage projects in a light way?
    • Project management is important, time consuming and can be seen as an overhead by team members. As a team member or as a project manager, what would be the best (and lightest) way to manage projects?

Are you interested in sharing your thoughts about Project management?

Then it’s your chance to participate to this speed-blogging!

  4. How do we build a Nordic-wide community of scientific software developers, application experts and other e-science experts?
    • An inspiring example of how this can work is the community of research software engineers (RSEs) in the UK. What will it take to build a RSE-like community in the Nordics? What are the challenges in creating a community over Nordic borders? What role can NeIC play in this endeavour?

Some of us are dreaming about it… Can we make it happen?

Come and help us to shape the future of the Nordic community of scientific software developers!

  5. What are the next steps to deploy a local European Genome Archive (EGA) development environment for the Nordic countries?
    • We would love to have it now… Let’s discuss the next steps to deploy our local EGA development environment for the Nordic countries!

  6. Make a movie on the NeIC vision and strategic process!
    • Do you want to participate to the 2018 NeIC box office?

The NeIC vision and strategic process movie is on its way!

Here is your chance to participate!

  7. What does the future hold for data mining?
    • With more and more data to analyze, do we need to change the way we work?

Come and discuss about the future trend in data mining!
